Job Description:

As an integral part of the expanding QA team at DealerOn, a rapidly growing company, the Jr.  Test Automation Engineer (with some training from the Sr. QA Engineer) will primarily work on building out the larger part of an already established test framework, which runs against a combination of websites and a backend CMS. This role, in a small agile QA team, will be focused (especially initially) on writing test automation code with Selenium Webdriver in C#. Duties also include reviewing bugs, monitoring the tickets, writing manual test cases, and eventually, monitoring the releases of numerous development teams, pushing fixes to the QA environment.  

About you:

You are an automation-first software tester. You like writing test-code, you know your way around UI’s, understand front-end languages, most importantly of all, you enjoy creating working, robust UI automation tests, and don’t get sidetracked until you see your intended test running as it should.

As a savvy tester, you understand that the entire development team owns quality, and are willing to give input on any areas you think can be improved. For your part, you strive to implement quality in your thinking / planning (i.e. before you write a single line of code). Although full training will be given in the automation framework, tools used, and the application you will be testing, you will also be given the space to learn and improve by working independently on assignments, and having your work reviewed on a daily / weekly basis. Essential Functions:

  • Be passionate and energetic about writing automated tests to resolve complex user and/or test-scenarios
  • Be patient and calm in a demanding and challenging software engineering position
  • Learn (and then work with) the test automation framework
  • Work with the Sr. Quality Assurance Engineer to ensure all automation tests are scale-able, robust, logically thought-out
  • Rapidly learn new systems and technologies
  • Write solid, sensible manual tests, most of which will be automate-able
  • Work with other developers and internal customers to define requirements
  • Bring new insights to the team; find ways to implement them that improve the overall efficiency and technical offerings of our product and our development process

Required Skills/Experience:

  • Ability to focus on writing automation for extended periods, breaking down larger problems into smaller manageable chunks
  • Solid understanding of SDLC, Agile Scrum methodology, Kanban, Scrumban etc.
  • Good theoretical & practical understanding of CMS’s
  • Experience and/or demonstrated ability using UI testing tools such as Selenium Webdriver, UFT/QTP, Coded UI Test, etc.
  • Experience with popular test management tools like TFS, HP ALM, Zephyr, MTM etc.
  • Ability to excel both in group-work, and individually
  • Works closely with Sr. Quality Assurance engineer to meet daily / bi-weekly targets
  • Must have a willingness to explain and demonstrate test automation worked on
  • Humility required (in being receptive to feedback, working diligently on tasks assigned from the backlog, and in constant learning)
  • Confidence required, being pro-active, suggesting improvements and voicing any questions up front

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Experience testing large web-based and service-oriented applications
  • Understanding of test automation frameworks, especially the Page-Object Model
  • Demonstrated experience polling DOM using browser development tools
  • Demonstrated excellence in bug reporting
  • C# .NET experience + Visual Studio experience
  • Solid understanding of Basic SQL, Agile Scrum methodology, Kanban, Scrumban etc.
  • Understanding of unit testing frameworks such as Cucumber, NUnit, MSTest
  • Understanding of performance testing
  • Experience with/solid understanding of continuous integration/deployment concepts
